Anne’s heart was growing larger every day and tonight she could not sleep. She was excited but also nervous of what was to come. She decided she needed to go for a short walk to her favorite spot. As she walked towards the glittering pond in the middle of the circle of quaking aspens by her cottage, her chest has puffed out more and more and wondered if tonight was going to be the night. She could feel the heart squeezing out between her ribs – it put some pressure on her lungs too, but she remembered her training and just put one set in front of the other and focused on long controlled breaths. She stood at the pool’s edge staring at her reflection and the warm green and purple lights of the southern lights reflecting in the water. Her long white silk nightgown shimmered in the full moonlight. She looked up at the moon and smiled and felt a warm breeze on her freckled cheeks. As the air blew through the trees and the yellow aspen leaves danced passionately.
There was a rumble in the earth and suddenly her ribs started to pop out from beneath her skin and straighten until she had spiky wings coming out of her back. The ribs quickly continued to grow until they formed the structure of wings. Tendons and muscles started to sprout from the bones and a stunning iridescent white skin with a gold sparkly glow emerged and covered her naked boney wings. Ecstatically she looked at her reflection in the glass still pool again and witnessed the bursting bouquet of feathers starting at the tip and waterfalling down the wings in exciting sculptural waves until she had a fluffy full set of wings with pure white feathers. She eagerly leaned forward to look closer at her new celestial appendages and as she did, she started to fall in the clear pond, the smooth round rocks at the bottom getting closer to her face! Instinctually, with one massive push of her right wing she quickly elevated herself with a hop back from the water’s edge. Surprised and curious in her own strength, she coordinated another flap with now both her wings. She was quickly high above the tops of the shimmering birch trees. All the birds in the forest started to sing as she rose in a celebration of her now shared joy, that they experience every day. She felt a cold breeze on her chest and looked down. Her rib cage had been replaced with a polished copper chest plate with one grapefruit sized golden faceted gem set in the center. A bright golden light shown from the gem up to the orange star in the sky, and she could see her extended family of Earth Angels floating down the orange light slide to join her in celebration of the birth of her new wings!
